What is Pack 731 Winter Camping?
The Pack’s Family Winter Camping trip is held every March at Camp Saffran at the Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation (BCMSR), located in Harford County, approximately an hour and a half north of Crofton.

Registration – Cost is approximately $25 pp, and approximately half of this money is returned to the Dens to purchase food for the weekend. Initially, registration is open only to scouts and adult guardians. Each scout is required to be accompanied by an adult guardian who will stay in the same cabin. If we expect to have additional space for siblings, we will conduct a second registration wave.

Cabins
– Eight of the cabins have sleeping space for 18 people (the Administration building sleeps 10), plus room for a few extras if you bring your own air mattresses or cots.  Sleeping space consists of upper and lower bunk bed frames with a canvas bottom, so please be sure to bring either a sleeping bag or a couple of blankets to toss on the bunk.  Since occasionally there are problems with some of the bunk beds, it is helpful if a few folks in each cabin bring either their own cot or an air mattress to place on the floor (just in case).  Each cabin has a wood stove or a fireplace, plus a wood box.  We are responsible for leaving the wood box as full as we find it, so everyone should plan on bringing a few pieces of firewood along.

Food
- Cabin leaders plan the meals for their individual cabins for the weekend.  They need help in preparing the meals, so please be generous with your assistance.  Plan on eating dinner before we leave on Friday - the first meal at camp is breakfast on Saturday.  We eat all meals at each cabin.  In addition to Saturday breakfast, we have lunch and dinner, plus a Saturday night snack (subject to cabin leaders’ discretion).  We finish up with breakfast on Sunday morning.

Activities -
There are activities for all boys in the pack.  Activities we have held in past years include model rockets, camp games, nature hike, archery, and more. In addition we encourage everyone to bring equipment for baseball, volleyball, basketball, football, and frisbee, plus there are many hiking trails available.  In case of inclement weather, we try to continue with activities as much as possible, but we might have to move some things indoors.  We have a campfire and ceremony on Saturday evening, so if any families have any extra firewood (beyond what you bring for your cabin), we appreciate the donations.

Camp facilities
- Each cabin has lights, electricity, a kitchen with a gas stove, sink with hot and cold running water, and refrigerator.  Recently renovated outside latrines are located at each campsite, plus full (heated) bathroom facilities (toilets, sinks, showers) are located at the pool house.  There is a trading post located near the pool house, where you can purchase patches, mugs, t-shirts, candy, sodas, etc.  The pack purchases a Broad Creek Winter Camper patch for all registered cub scouts attending the campout.
