Volunteer Firefighters Parade

Our Pack has been invited to participate in the 81st Annual Convention Parade of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association hosted by the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, September 11th. The parade starts at 10am. We will need to meet at the Crofton Country Club at 9:15 am. The parade will end at Duke of Kent and Crofton Parkway. We would like to have a rough idea of the number of Scouts who will be participating. Scouts will wear their Class A uniforms in the parade.

Recruiting at CES

Members of our Pack Leadership will be at Crofton Elementary School during lunches on Wednesday, September 1st to recruit new members to our Pack. We will be discussing some of the activities we do as a Pack and letting everyone know that we will have a table at Back to School Night for parents to visit and ask questions. We would like all of our current Pack members who attend Crofton Elementary to wear their Class B t-shirt, if they have one, to school on Wednesday. We would love to look out at the tables and see lots of Class B yellow!

Raingutter Regatta 2010

We had great weather on Saturday, August 7^th for our annual Raingutter Regatta held at the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department. There were a variety of designs the 32 participating Scouts came up with this year. Our Cubmaster & Assistant Cubmaster handed out 14 Design Awards, including Best Birthday Spirit and Crabbiest. There were several heats run in our double elimination, head to head competition. The top three finishers were: First Place – Matthew Byers, Second Place – Bobby Thompson, and Third Place – Connor Wallace.

Special thanks to all of our helpers that made this day successful- Bob Peterson, Brian Taschenberger, Steve Hostetler, Dave Underwood, Neil Kittleson, Zach Kittleson, Stephen Byers, Bob Thompson, Mike Schaeffer, Dave Gercken, Zach Pope, and Lisa Hogan.

Congratulations to all who participated.

Community Event Information: “National Night Out”: 3 August 2010

The “National Night Out” event is tomorrow evening, Tuesday August 3rd, at the Crofton library. Activities include a hike rodeo, police and fire equipment demonstrations, skateboard demonstrations, a K9 unit, the Citizen Emergency Response Team and a presentation on gangs given by Anne Arundel County Police.

National Night Out is an event designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. These events are being held all over the country on the this same date.

Catch a Glimpse of the 2010 National Jamboree

This Saturday, July 31, 2010, the entire Scouting family will be able take part in a historic nationwide broadcast, “A Shining Light Across America,” from the 100th Anniversary National Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Virginia.

Hundreds of local councils across America will be gathering together in venues large and small to host their own Shining Light activities leading up to the broadcast and are encouraging all Scouts, Scouting volunteers, alumni, families and community supporters to join in the festivities.

“The Shining Light” broadcast will be available via satellite and via Webcast starting with the Jamboree Arena Pre-Show festivities at 5:30 p.m. EDT. The highlight of the broadcast — the spectacular Centennial Celebration Show — will begin at 8 p.m. EDT, and will conclude at approximately 10:30 p.m. EDT.

In addition, anyone with a high speed Internet connection can tune in online at www.ustream.tv/shininglight or on the Shining Light section of the BSA’s Facebook page. There, viewers will be able to comment and interact with fellow webcast participants while watching. To learn about viewing plans in your community, contact your local BSA council office. And, if you missed the big event, be sure to visit www.ustream.tv/shininglight to watch the archived videos from the broadcast under the “Videos” section.

Finally, BYU-TV, available in most basic cable packages, will also be broadcasting the event and streaming over its Web site, www.byutv.org.

In the Crofton area BYUTV is channel 290 on Verizon and Comcast networks.

Come and See the Parade and Adventure Base 100

Sunday July 25^th the BSA Grand Centennial Parade will be in Washington, D.C. Support Boy Scouts of America by turning out to see this once in 100 years event. The Parade begins at 1pm and will traverse on Constitution Ave, NW between 7^th and 18^th streets. The parade will feature marching bands, hot air balloons, an Eagle Scout contingent, antique cars and members from both Pack and Troop 731.

Additionally Adventure Base 100 will be on the National Mall from July 23-Aug 8 (10am-6pm). AB100 is a 10,000-square-foot campus providing an exciting view of the BSA. Featuring a ropes course, hands-on exhibits, an IMAX-like Go Scouting! Dome, the BSA Traveling Museum and much more.

Raingutter Regatta 2010

Ahoy Scouts -It’s almost time for the annual Raingutter Regatta! Do want to set sail with us?

Pack 731’s Raingutter Regatta will be held on the morning of Saturday, August 7, 2010, behind the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department on Davidsonville Road, just like last year. Practice runs will begin at 9:00a.m. and the double-elimination races will begin at approximately 9:30a.m.

Making a Raingutter Regatta boat is easy – much easier than a Pinewood Derby car. You will receive a kit from the Pack. You just secure the sail and decorate your boat – no woodworking required! Then the Scouts blow their boats down gutters filled with water for a quick and fun event. All Scouts will receive participation patches, and the top three finishers will get medals. Certificates will also be awarded for boat design and creativity.

Flag Raising at CES

We had 26 Scouts and 3 Adult Leaders participate in the flag raising ceremony at Crofton Elementary School for Flag Day. We raised the American Flag, Maryland State Flag, and Crofton Elementary School Flag. Thank you to all who participated and to all of the parents who came to show support. Each of the Scouts and Leaders will be receiving the Flag Ceremony patch for participating.

The Flag Raising at Crofton Elementary School on Flag Day, June 14th, will be done by Pack 731. All members of our Pack are welcome to join us in their Class A uniforms at 8:45am in front of the school. Each participant will receive a special 100th Anniversary Flag Ceremony patch.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of history!

Pack 731 has the opportunity to participate in the Grand Centennial Parade in Washington DC on July 25^th. This event is part of the 100^th Anniversary Celebrations that are happening this summer.

Not since 1937 have the Boy Scouts of America been honored like this in the Nations Capital. Please follow this link for many more details about this wonderful opportunity to be part of a historic event in our own backyard.
